Call № 001 / Open

$5,000* for the best way to make the case for ME/CFS philanthropy.

* Up to $10,000 for proposals with substantial production costs (see 07).

ME/CFS has been disadvantaged by decades of institutional neglect, even as scientific momentum accelerates. This year's call supports an individual or team to build an outstanding communication resource that helps philanthropists see why ME/CFS is one of today's most compelling opportunities for high-impact giving.

01

The challenge

Create the best possible communication resource for philanthropists interested in high-impact giving: a website, an interactive experience, a digital campaign, a beautifully designed report, a short documentary, or any other format you believe would be most effective.

02

The goal

Help philanthropists understand why ME/CFS is one of today's most compelling opportunities for high-impact philanthropy, and why investing in research through the WE&ME Foundation and the broader ME/CFS ecosystem could have extraordinary impact.

03

What to submit

A short concept proposal (1–3 pages), your proposed deliverables, a timeline and budget, and relevant experience or portfolio.

04

How we evaluate

Scientific accuracy, quality of communication and design, creativity, feasibility, and potential real-world impact.

05

Who can apply

Any individual or team, anywhere in the world. No institutional affiliation required.

06

Distribution

The completed work is donated to the WE&ME Foundation for use in their philanthropic outreach.

07

Grant amount

The standard grant is $5,000. For proposals that require substantial production costs, such as renting a film camera and crew for a short documentary, commissioning original illustration or data visualisation, licensing footage, or building a more ambitious interactive experience, the grant can be increased up to $10,000. Outline any such costs in your budget and the rationale will be assessed alongside the proposal.

09

Timeline & payment

The finished product is expected 120 days after the decision is announced. Full payment is made on delivery; depending on the project, part of the grant can be paid out in advance.

08

Legal & licensing

Open to applicants worldwide, subject to applicable sanctions law. The recipient is credited as the author and retains copyright. On delivery, they grant Christoph Ströck an exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and sublicensable licence to use, adapt, publish, and relicense the work, including donating it to the WE&ME Foundation and, in time, releasing it as a free public resource. The grant is paid in USD by bank transfer; the recipient is responsible for any local taxes. The grant agreement is governed by Austrian law. Full terms are shared with the selected recipient.
